As a recently adapted West River kid, I must say that I’m impressed with the local live music scene in Rapid City.
I spent the last five years on the east side of the state, attending college at South Dakota State University and spending my summers in Sioux Falls. Since moving west I’ve discovered that summer is a wonderful time in South Dakota, mainly because there isn’t five feet of snow on the ground, but also because local communities come alive. This is the rare time of year when people are able to go outside and enjoy nature and nightlife.
Downtown Rapid City is a good example of a thriving community in the summer months. It seems like every night of the week there is live music playing at a bar, restaurant or some other venue – like a makeshift stage setup in the middle of an intersection at Summer Nights.
