Free photo editing app comparable to Photoshop

Photo editing applications are really hot these days. Most of them are built for mobile devices and only offer simple filters.

If you’re the kind of person that likes to put a little more effort into photo editing and you want more control over advanced features, try Picnik, a Google product that does virtually everything you can do in photoshop.

The application is fun, simple and free.

Look at these before and after photos below to get an idea of the things you can do using Picnik.

All the effects seen are available in the free version of Picnik.

The free version is great, but it only saves your five most recent photos.

Upload to a premium account and you’ll get access to your last 100 photos. You can go back and edit these photos at any time.

Here are the best editing tools (in my opinion).

  • Focal Soften lets you blur the background from the main focal point.
  • Holga-ish makes your photo black and white but gives you the option to add faint color and graininess.
  • Resize is a basic edting tool, but it’s great for making the best social profile pictures because you can pre-crop certain areas.
  • Exposure is another basic editing tool that I use on every single photo. It also lets you add contrast, shadows and highlights. These are minor touch-ups that make a huge difference in your photos.
  • Not all people are fortunate enough to have access to Instagram. That’s okay. You have Picnik.
