Sample more than 60 craft beers at Beer Fest 2012

RAPID CITY – The second annual Black Hills Beer Fest will take place at Minervas on Jan. 28 from 12–4 p.m.

Breweries including Rogue, Odell, New Belgium, Empyrean and Crow Peak will provide samples of their newest and most unique beers.

Many of the breweries may not seem like anything “special,” but that is incorrect.

I too was a doubter.

I had no idea that some of the mainstream breweries could produce such delicious, flavorful beers.

These creations usually result from a collaboration of two or more beer manufacturers. Their knowledge and ideas allow them to make a new hybrid beer that is totally unique. This process gives the brewers more freedom, allowing them to stray away from the recipes that define their mainstream beers.

Tickets for the 2012 Beer Fest are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. You can purchase them at Minervas, Smith’s Liquor, Independent Ale House or Crow Peak Brewery in Spearfish.

I talked to John, a bartender at Independent Ale House. He said the event sold out quickly last year. He is encouraging people to buy tickets in advance.

If you like beer, you must go!
