Effective April 1, 2015, the fastest you can drive in the state of South Dakota is 80 mph. South Dakota joins four other states — Texas, Utah, Wyoming and Idaho — with maximum interstate speed limits of 80 mph.
Growing up in the state, I went 80 mph almost all the time anyway. I think for most people this legislation is simply justification for the rule bending they’ve been doing all along. However, I’m told, cops are not being very lenient on drivers exceeding the new speed limit.
I caught this Vine of a new speed limit sign along I-29 heading north, between Sioux Falls and Brookings. The video is short, though, so don’t blink.
